PHOTOS ARE WORKING.  You can view pictures of the ships we are tracking in the Google maps themselves, or you can also just browse the "Ship Photo" area.

We will be releasing a software package soon, it has been designed to support Windows XP and should run on Vista as well (still testing).

The software is capable of take a raw AIS stream of data from a com port, translating the messages, and then uploads it to a database.

The first version only allows uploading to our servers, then the second version may allow upload to any server, or I may make two different versions and write the php scripts for it as well.

The software is complete, I just need to get the website setup for handling the database operations and then I will upload the software for everyone that would like to test it out.

Thanks,

I was hoping to have it up by the end of the long weekend.

Ran into a snag with the xml translations through VB6.

I finally got it working tonight!

You can see the translation script working here.

I have ships going into the database through the software now.  That was a huge piece of the puzzle.

Now I need to get the user interface working on the front end and then I'll make the software available for beta testing to the public.

The front end piece should be completed in the next couple days.  I am working a rewrite to the way maps are displayed, for faster load times and a near real time update on ship positions without reloading the page.

More to follow...

Ok, all the bugs are out of the software.  It's stable now.

I have all the scripts up, but they are still buggy, a little more testing tomorrow and I should have the software up tomorrow evening.

Ok, I have posted the software to the downloads area

ShipPlotting V2.1

I suspect there will be some bugs in the software initially.  Please post all findings to this thread and I will try to get it fixed as quickly as possible.

There are some issues sometimes with software only working on the development PC because of file dependencies.  So please let me know of any strange behavior and provide as much detail as possible.

I am requiring registration to download the software since it will only work the shipplotting database and you will need to setup a map page to get it working anyway.

Here is a quick tutorial to get you up and running.

First create an account on the site, it's all free.

Then log in and under the user menu on the left, click on map settings. (settings1.jpg pic below)

On the map settings page click on "Add New Map". (also settings1.jpg pic below)

On the new map page, you will need to just fill out the data and create a registration number.  This will need to be something unique, such as a birth date or something similar.  Try to keep it under 5 digits.

That's it for setting up the website portion.

You will use the registration number after installing the software so we can link the data you upload to your Map page.

Download the software from the link above.  After installation, the first screen will ask for registration number, enter the number you put in on the map creation page, if it's correct, it will then go to the main program page.  You can check the settings, most receivers transmit at 384000 baud, 8 Data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, and no handshaking.  Select the com port you are using.

That's it, you should be up and running.  Give the website about 5 minutes from the time you hit the upload button to seeing ships on the page.  The site registers new maps every 5 minutes, if there is data that correlates to the registration number.  After that, your ships will show up in near real time.

Again, post any issues on this forum thread, and let me know how it performs.

Carl,

If you can do a search for the aisparser.dll file on your hard drive and if you find it, put in the support folder for the program.

I will try to package it up again today and reupload to the server.

The parser file is a dependency file that does the actual parsing of the AIV data strings. (The heart of the software really.)

I tested this on 3 PC's, but I may have made an error in the installation path for that file.

I'll post here when I have re uploaded the software.

Carl,

I recompiled the project, double check the install path and insured the aisparser.dll file is in fact included.

Please let me know how it works.

I would be glad to hear if you can get it working.

Thanks for the info, how is Helsinki?  Cold I bet.

Ok, Is running now. However ships are not plotted correctly on my map 61289. When looking at the data-communication flow it seems dataflow hangs up for a while , but maybe your application is in its early days.

I will keep tracking progress

PS. We have had extremely mild winter so far, only a few cm of snow and just around zero degrees Celsius

Thanks for the info Carl.

I see another user (tfuss) is uploading data now too.  His data looks like it is also being plotted strangely.

I will take a closer look at this, if you look at the pensacola map, I am uploading tracks from an AIS Simulator.  I have not verified that tracks are where they should be.

I will take a look at that this afternoon and try to verify the data and fix any issues.

Can you tell me how you got the software working?  Did you download the new version, or did you have to move the aisparser.dll file?  Hopefully the version worked properly and installed correctly.  Did you get any errors?  What version of windows are you using?

Thanks for the help, if you can, could you try turning your data back on so I can trouble shoot the data?

I also have a way users can use one receiver and upload data to both shipplotter and shipplotting.com using the data out feature of shipplotter.  More on this to follow.

Thanks,

Aric
